The Peterlee Show
Peterlee Hostellers’ stall at The Peterlee Show, Helford Road, c.1977.
Wearing the hat decorated with badges is Ian Miller.
Punch & Judy Show at The Peterlee Show, Helford Road playing fields, c1983.
The two children at the front are Carolyn and Andrea, my nice and daughter. I am stood right at the back. The children are watching Punch and Judy on carnival day, which was always held on the field behind the Hearts of Oak. My daughter looks to be about 2 years old, so this must have been around 1983.
My husband took the photo. He was a freelance photographer at the time working for the Northern Echo, so he developed the photo himself. We moved to Ripon in 1989, but I still have connections with Peterlee. I was there only last week visiting my sister.

T I’m pretty sure this was on the old Shotton Hall Infants school field, next to the Waveney Road entrance. You can see the bungalow, lamp post, 4 houses (numbers 30,32,34 & 36) and the flats on Leven Walk in the background. I’m there in the photo with the blond hair and ‘The Fonz’ t-shirt with my late mother beside me. No idea if it was Punch & Judy though.

Thanks for your comments. Which photo do you refer too? Also we will be in Peterlee Town centre next Saturday 22nd February 10am-2.30pm. Why not pop along for a chat
Cheers Fred Felton secretary
Hi Fred, hope you are well. I was referring to the photo of children sat or kneeling on the ground with parents behind. I’m to the right hand side of the balloon with the curly blond hair and my late mother, Pat Rogers to the right of me. Can’t remember what the event was, but post above mentions a Punch & Judy show. A long time ago, ha.
