Thorntree Gill

Thorntree Gill was the first phase of residential development completed in Peterlee. It was home to the towns first residents, who began moving in in 1951. The road layout is that designed by Architect Planner Berthold Lubetkin for his ‘Hundred Houses’ scheme (see Origins section), though the houses eventually built differed dramatically from what Lubetkin had envisaged.
